Who we are
We are just a bunch of people from a lot of different backgrounds who come together to share a meal each week and to learn more about Yahweh (God) and His Son, Jesus. We use the Bible as our primary text. We aren't hung up on one particular translation, but the on‑screen text is typically from the NASB95.
We are not an organized religious organization or a 501(c)(3). We are just a bunch of people who come together to study the Word.
Our history
Family Bible Study started somewhere around 2003. We really can't put an exact date on it at this point because we have hosted the study in so many different places as we've had to move because of building or growth issues.
Who pays for all this
We have never collected money, but generous people who are in the study, and outside the study, help provide the finances we need to host it.
If you cannot afford to pay for the meal, it is no big deal — no one is going to ask or look down on you, and there are no collection boxes or plates.
What do you believe
We believe the Bible is true. Most of the people who come have grown up in some kind of "church" setting. Lots of people still go to a typical church. Some do not have a "church home," and would probably tell you Family Bible Study is their "church." What we believe really doesn't matter as much as what the Bible says and teaches us — that's what we should be focused on. To that end, we try our best to:
- 1Study the Word using the context in which it was written.
- 2Understand the culture that it was written to.
- 3Immerse ourselves in the text using as much original language as possible to understand the meaning and intent.
- 4Use other texts, videos, and resources to facilitate understanding.
Join us on GroupMe
We use GroupMe to post prayer requests, links to the Bible study, and updates on events we host. We try to meet every Monday night, but if we have to reschedule we use GroupMe to alert everyone.
Each week we post an invite so we can get an accurate head count for the catered dinner that is provided.
